Historic Homes Tour

We were not able to complete this task. we tried to volunteer but no one would call us back or email us back and it wasnt in our financial cards to be able to attend.Sorry.

Thanks to all of our sponsors!

Woodruff + Webb Optometry

This is where we would like to take the opportunity to thank all of our sponsors and everyone involved in making this years race a success for us. This event could not have been what it is without your help. Our team has had the most amazing time running all over town, meeting new people, and discovering Columbus. We don't expect to win this race, but we have learned so many amazing things about Columbus, and we have met some really GREAT people along the way, which means so much more to us than any prize. we have made friends that i believe we will keep in contact with for years to come. We have found so many fun things to do, and so many interesting places that we will have a good reason to stay around Columbus for years and years and be happy to bring our friends and family members in on the fun. we have learned in this race that your efforts don't always show and that the lack of effort in other teams can appear to be More than it was, but we take pride in knowing that we did our best and we had an amazing time which something that is priceless. we cannot thank all of you enough for provider this once in a lifetime experience for us.
sincerely three definitely successful damsels!

Big Brother/Big Sister

we dont have any pictures to show you for this activity but here is a copy of the email that we are distributing to help BBBS with their program.

Hello all,This e-mail is being sent to you by participants of the Amazing Race of Columbus on behalf of the Big Brothers/Big sisters (BBBS) program of Columbus, IN. If you have received this e-mail, consider it a compliment. The Big Brothers/Big Sisters program of Columbus is seeking well-qualified volunteers, as there is currently a shortage of "Bigs." Within the BBBS program, professionally supported, one-on-one relationships are created between between children and caring adult volunteers. This is not something that requires a huge time commitment or any special skills, you would simply be a mentor and friend to a child.Attached is a Q & A document with frequently asked questions. If you or someone you know is interested, please forward your contact information to Laura Moses, who is the program Director. Her e-mail address is : laura@foundationforyouth.comInterested volunteers are invited to attend:
Big Brothers Big Sisters Volunteer Recruitment Gathering
at Foundation for Youth ,405 Hope Ave.
Thursday, Nov. 6, 2008
5:30-6:45 pm.

This will be a perfect time to ask more questions and know more about the program. For further details about the gathering, you can email Jessica Vogel at Jessica.Vogel@siho.org or Lindsay Brown at brownle@yahoo.com.

Thank you all for your consideration of this wonderful opportunity,Amazing Racers of Columbus

freedom field

Freedom field at Blackwell park is the greatest playground i have ever seen. not only does it have every kind of play equipment imaginable it has several learning tools for children and best of all it is accessible to all people regardless of limitations. the ground is made of Pervious Concrete, which eliminates puddles and ponding on the playground surface and makes it nice and soft on your feet and the playground is handicap accessible. the large features and open space makes it easy for everyone to play and guardians can be close enough by to watch and have access quickly if needed.this playground also has fun learning tools such as braille, sign language and general fun such as telling time, learning the alphabet, and playing tic-tac-toe one of several boards...which i distinctively remember counting in last years amazing race.

The Ethnic Expo TRI-FECTA

Who better to learn culture from than the tri-tans? the point of this race is to network and meet people in the community. yes we already know the tans but this gave us a chance to really learn about the tans. we knew that they were from the Philippines, after a long conversation we had about it during the kick off event. my (Jess) cousin happens to be from there as well which is what prompted our conversation. however, we never went into great detail about who they are and what their culture is to them.we didn't get a chance to hang out with them at the expo because they were volunteering at a booth but they did invite us over to their home after the expo so we could talk. as it turns out they are both Filipino citizens, however they are actually Chinese. cim's father actually came over to the Philippines from china, as well as both of their grandparents, however cim and Jonathan were both born in the Philippines.they speak Fukien (Chinese languages/dialects which are spoken in southern Fujian) and Tagalog(the major languages used in the Philippines).they practice feng shui and still use both Filipino and mandarin manners in their home which they are also teaching iynigo so he will be sure to know where he comes from. we've realized that tri-tan has nothing to do with the fact that there are three of them, its because they incorporate three cultures in their lives everyday :0)

Mill Race Race/ Mayors Walk

Judy and i volunteered for the Mill Race Race, while Lindsay had to work. we were in charge of helping with the children's division. we were able to help steer the kids in the right direction for whichever race they were participating in and when they came across the finish line give each kid a ribbon. it was fun to watch all of the kids come across the line and get special recognition as well as see their faces light up when they realized their finish line was the same as the adults. we also hung out with Michelle and Chris Findley from team-C.E.M.M. Racers.after the race they announced the winner in each leg ( including one of our own justice leaguers) and they had a former Colts player there to give away prizes including autographed footballs, a worn Peyton manning jersey and some signed colts cards. we were able to get our picture taken with Jeff Herrod who was a former American football linebacker that played in the NFL from 1988-1998. He played for the Indianapolis Colts from 1988-1996 and then again in 1998. He played for the Philadelphia Eagles for one season in 1997. At the end of the 1998 season he announced his retirement at the age of 32, and moved to Columbus. He now works for our very own Cummins,Inc.

driftwood valley music festival/ Iron pour

This year we made it out to the Driftwood Valley music festival in time to witness the iron pour. it was really neat to see how much they could do with iron. We did run into the Tri-Tans there and posed for a photo-op. we also toured the iron tent to watch a video on how they make the big sculptures in town and see some other local art.
